BHOPAL: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic University Chancellor Girish Chandra Varma, who was arrested on Sunday on rape charge, was on Monday sent to police remand till January 1.
Court of additional chief judicial magistrate Varsha Sharma sent Varma to police remand till 4 pm of January 1.
Varma, who arrived in district court at around 1 pm and stayed there for an hour, tried to appear calm, but nervousness was evident from his gestures. In his one hour stay at court, he was frequently seen drinking water. He was sent to police custody for 3 days.
Husband of the survivor alleged that the couple is getting threats from supporters of Varma.
However, some of Varma's supporters also reached the court.
Varma was arrested by Jehangirabad police from his sprawling 10-acre ashram on the Bhojpur road in Bhopal on a complaint filed by the victim about 9 months ago.
Jehangriabad police station in charge Salim Khan said we sought remand of 3 days for further investigation and the court granted it.
